For the most accurate results, we recommend using a soft fabric measuring tape. Measurements should be taken directly against the skin, with the tape held snugly but not tightly. Where possible, have someone else take your measurements.
Wearing a non-padded, well-fitting bra, measure around the fullest part of your chest — typically at nipple level. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and ensure it is not pulling or sagging at the back. Round to the nearest centimetre.
Measure directly under the bust, around the ribcage, keeping the tape firm. This measurement determines your band size. Breathe out gently before reading the measurement. This is the foundation of your bra fit — a snug underbust measure is the key to proper support.
Measure around your natural waistline — the narrowest point of your torso, typically about two centimetres above the navel. Stand relaxed with feet together. Do not pull in your stomach. This measurement is used for high-waisted briefs, corsets, and nightwear.
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. Stand with your feet together. This measurement is essential for brief, suspender, and nightwear sizing. Most women measure approximately 20–25 cm more at the hips than the waist.

Luxury lingerie rewards gentle care. Follow these instructions to preserve the beauty of your pieces for years to come.
Wash gently by hand in cold water — never above 30°C — using a mild specialist lingerie detergent. Avoid vigorous rubbing or wringing, which can distort lace and stretch elastics.
Never place Maison Élan pieces in a tumble dryer. The heat and mechanical action will irreparably damage lace and silk. Instead, gently press excess water from the garment — never wring — and lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight.
Lace and embroidered panels should never be ironed directly. If pressing is necessary, place a clean white cotton cloth between the iron and the garment, and use the lowest heat setting. Silk may be ironed on a silk setting while slightly damp.
Store bras flat or hanging — never folded at the cup — to maintain their shape. Keep lingerie away from jewellery and fasteners that might snag delicate fabrics. Silk and lace pieces benefit from being stored in the original tissue paper, away from direct light.
We recommend a pH-neutral specialist lingerie wash — never biological detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, which can degrade silk fibres and damage lace. Our own Maison Élan Lingerie Wash is available at the boutique.
Use the Maison Élan lingerie travel pouch (included with all bra purchases) to protect pieces in transit. For bodysuits and slips, fold loosely and place in the centre of your luggage, never compressed under heavier items.
If you find yourself between sizes, our general recommendation is to size up for bras (for a more comfortable band fit) and to size to your hip measurement for briefs and nightwear. However, the best approach is to contact our fitting team, who will ask a few simple questions and guide you to the correct size for each specific style. Some of our styles run slightly larger or smaller by design — our fitting team is aware of these nuances for every piece in the collection.
In general, yes — our pieces are designed to fit true to standard EU / FR sizing. However, there are style-specific variations. Our corset-style pieces are designed for a more structured fit and may require sizing up. Our silk slip dresses and nightgowns have generous ease and are designed to drape, so they accommodate a range of figures. Each product page indicates whether the piece has any sizing specifics, and our team is always available to advise.
A well-fitting bra should sit level around the body — the band at the back should be parallel to the front underwire. The band should be snug enough that you cannot pull it more than two fingers away from your body. The cups should fully enclose the breast tissue without gaping or overflowing at the top or sides. The straps should be comfortable without digging in — the majority of your support should come from the band, not the straps. The centre gore (the piece between the cups) should lie flat against your sternum. If any of these elements are off, contact our fitting team for guidance.
Absolutely. We offer complimentary size exchanges within 30 days of receipt, provided the piece is unworn, with all original packaging and tags intact. We will arrange complimentary return collection (for orders within the EU and UK) and dispatch your replacement size as a matter of priority. Please note that briefs and bodysuits may not be exchanged for hygiene reasons unless the original protective liner is intact.

We also offer virtual fitting consultations via video call for clients who cannot visit us in person.
