The Story of Maison Élan
In the gilded autumn of 2008, amidst the whispered ambitions of the Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Isabelle Élan founded her atelier with a single, unwavering conviction: that lingerie is not an afterthought — it is the very foundation of a woman's confidence, her secret armour, her most intimate expression of self.
Trained under the tutelage of two of Paris's most revered couturiers, Isabelle spent years mastering the rare alchemy of French lacemaking, the precise geometry of couture fitting, and the sensuous poetry of silk. When she finally opened the doors to Maison Élan, she brought with her not only a mastery of craft, but a philosophy that would define an entirely new language of luxury intimates.
From the very first collection — twelve pieces, each named after a street in the 8th arrondissement — the response was extraordinary. Editors, stylists and discerning women across Europe recognised something singular: a lingerie house that understood both the architecture of the body and the architecture of desire.
Three sacred pillars guide every piece that leaves our Parisian atelier. They are not principles we arrived at — they are the principles that arrived with us, inherent to every thread we choose, every pattern we draft, every woman we dress.
Each Maison Élan piece passes through the hands of at least fourteen artisans before it is complete. We work exclusively with third-generation lacemakers from Calais, silk weavers from Lyon, and embroiderers whose techniques trace back to the Renaissance courts. There are no shortcuts in our atelier — only the slow, sacred work of perfection.
Since our 2019 commitment to responsible luxury, we have transformed our supply chain from root to retail. All our silks are OEKO-TEX certified, our laces sourced from mills running on 100% renewable energy, and our packaging composed entirely of recycled and biodegradable materials. True luxury, we believe, can only endure when it nurtures the world it inhabits.
Sensuality, as we understand it, is not performance — it is presence. It is the feeling of weightless silk against warm skin at first light, the confidence that comes from knowing your most private self is beautifully held. We design for that feeling: intimate, assured, entirely yours. Every cut, every curve, every calculated transparency is an invitation to inhabit yourself fully.
Tucked behind a discreet façade on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, our atelier hums with the quiet intensity of absolute precision. It is here — in rooms flooded with northern light, at tables worn smooth by decades of devoted work — that every Maison Élan piece is born.
Our head couturières — many trained at the great Parisian houses — work in meditative silence, guided by patterns drafted in millimetres, shaping silk and lace into forms that feel as though they were invented for the body that will wear them. No two pieces are identical. Each carries within it the particular touch of its maker.
Visitors to the atelier — by appointment only — invariably speak of a singular sensation: the feeling that they have entered a place where time moves differently. Where the only currency is beauty, and patience is its instrument.
Lingerie is the most intimate garment a woman will ever wear. It deserves the same devotion as any haute couture creation — perhaps more.
Isabelle Élan was born in Lyon to a family of textile merchants who traced their trade to the Renaissance silk routes. From childhood, she was immersed in the vocabulary of fabric — the difference between a 16mm and 22mm silk, the particular character of Calais versus Bruges lace, the way light moves differently through chiffon than through georgette.
After graduating with distinction from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, she apprenticed under two legendary couturiers — an experience she describes as "four years of beautiful, humbling exactitude." It was during this period that she began to develop her own aesthetic philosophy: that the body should be honoured, not merely clothed; that intimacy is its own form of couture.
She founded Maison Élan in 2008 at the age of thirty-one. Within three years, the house had been profiled in Vogue Paris, featured in the permanent collection of the Musée de la Mode, and established partnerships with three of Europe's finest silk mills. Today, Isabelle oversees every collection personally, sketching the first designs by hand in the notebooks she has kept since her student days.
When she is not in the atelier, she can be found at the Marché Saint-Pierre, searching for exceptional fabrics with the same intensity she brings to everything. "I am always looking," she says. "The moment I stop looking, I stop seeing — and then what use am I to beauty?"
Isabelle Élan opens the doors of Maison Élan in Paris's 8th arrondissement. The inaugural collection, "Les Rues de Paris," sells out within seventy-two hours.
The Maison opens its first standalone boutique at 42 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré — a location chosen for its proximity to the great couture houses that inspired Isabelle's vision.
Maison Élan opens concessions in London, Milan and New York, bringing Parisian sensibility to four of the world's great cities. International orders surge 340% in twelve months.
The Maison announces its comprehensive sustainability manifesto — "Beauté Responsable" — transforming the supply chain, materials sourcing, and packaging across all product lines.
The launch of the Maison Élan digital flagship brings the full couture experience online, with virtual fitting consultations, bespoke commissions, and same-day Parisian delivery.
Our most ambitious collection to date — inspired by the night sky above Paris — arrives. Thirty-six pieces of extraordinary beauty, each one a small masterpiece of the atelier's art.
Every piece is made by hand in our Parisian atelier and partner workshops throughout France. We will never compromise on origin or on the human hands that make our work possible.
Our materials are sourced from certified ethical suppliers. We conduct annual audits of every partner mill and workshop, ensuring fair wages, safe conditions, and environmental responsibility throughout our supply chain.
We work exclusively with the world's finest textiles — Grade A mulberry silks, Calais Caudry lace, Swiss embroidered tulles, and Italian satins — selected personally by our creative director for their exceptional quality and sensory character.
Each Maison Élan design is developed entirely in-house, never licensed or outsourced. Our patterns are original, our colourways unique, and our collections limited in number — ensuring that each piece retains its rarity and its meaning.
With twenty years at the needle, Céline oversees the daily work of the atelier with a precision that is almost mathematical and a tenderness that is entirely human. She trained in Lyon under the master corsetière Hélène Vidal and joined Maison Élan in 2010.
Raphaël travels between Lyon, Calais, Milan and Zurich each season, negotiating with the world's finest mills to secure the exceptional materials that define a Maison Élan piece. He possesses what colleagues call "an unhuman memory for thread counts."
A graduate of Sciences Po and Central Saint Martins, Solène shapes the visual and editorial language of the Maison across all touchpoints — from campaign imagery to the scent of tissue paper inside the packaging. She joined from Vogue Paris in 2018.
